The other night I was wasting time on Facebook and I came across a post asking about a book that's on the NYT Best Seller list. It was one I had seen before, but I couldn't remember the details so I clicked again and read the synopsis. Pretty much the whole plot revolved around a love triangle.
Now, I mean no disrespect to this author, but I headdesked. You may or may not know but I hate love triangles. No, wait, I LOATHE love triangles. I find out a book has a love triangle and I am instantly turned off. I won't pick it up no matter how good the story sounds. Lately, a lot of books seem to have love triangles.
WHY??????
What is it about love triangles that readers love? What am I missing? Is it some forbidden thrill. Or is it just flattery? I admit, I would be very flattered to have two guys vying for me. Still, love triangles annoy the crap out of me. Maybe I'm reading the wrong ones. The ones I've read usually make me want to punch the girl because it's obvious she is going to end up with boy 1 while stringing boy 2 along like a lost puppy. JUST FRIEND ZONE HIM! Force him to move on and hook up with whatever girl in the story is pinning for him because she's only there to be the one he actually loves so you can stay with the boy you're destined to be with.
Enough ranting. If you like love triangles, dish in the comments why. And if you don't, let's be friends! =D
PS: Yes, that is a Twilight picture. It's relevant for the post so it's okay for me to use it. =P
