If you recall earlier this year, I talked about how I really got into painting and made, like, a ton of bookmarks. Well, I thought it'd be fun to host a little giveaway and grow my mailing list, blog readership, or get some books onto people's eReaders. ;)
Titles are one of the toughest things for me to come up with. I have many works in progress that don't have real titles but placeholders. My hope is to figure out what to call the story later.
Sometimes I get lucky and a word pops out at me, like with Snapshots. It's what Cyc called his visions of the future, so it made sense to call the story that. For Out of Secrets, I actually blogged and asked for ideas and someone suggested a play on the word Out since JJ is gay and struggling to come out.
I'm not going to lie, I kept forgetting to think up monthly goals in January and February. But given how crazy the day job has been with catering and my book release, I'm not sure I would have done too well on any goals. I got home and crashed the rest of the day. The most I managed was to read and finish some books. But March is here and it's time to stop forgetting about setting goals for the month.
One thing readers may notice when they dig into Abducted Life is the strange thing I did with my chapters. Instead of the traditional Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, and so on, I started with Chapter: Xxxx. The next chapter is Chapter: Savannah. It alternates with whose POV the story is in. After a certain point where I stop using Xxxx. The reason for that is I didn't want Evan's name used up until a certain point. His name is in the blurb and mentioned once in that first chapter so readers know who's POV we are in when not in Savannah's, but after that, you won't read it again for a while.
Y'all... Y'ALL! Abducted Life's release day is finally here and you have zero idea how long I've been waiting. I had everything prepped in advance because I didn't want to mess up and miss release day and have Amazon revoke my pre-order privileges. Having that link early is nice for marketing purposes. Not to mention it's been TWO years since I published. I swear that's my lot in life. Every two years the stars align and let me crank out something for people to read.
Anyways, all over the internet, my book is getting pimped out. I thought I'd start here with the motivation behind the story.
Since Abducted Life is coming out next week (HOLY CRAP!) I figure it's time to whet your appetite with a teaser. MUAHAHAHAHAHA!
White-hot light stung his eyes. The roar of an engine shook his eardrums, threatening to burst them. His arms and legs were pinned to the cold ground. Above, a massive craft hovered. It was black and sleek, like a giant Porsche with wings instead of wheels. Turbines beat out a frantic rhythm, and yellow lights flashed along its belly. With a low warble, the craft lifted up, vanishing among the stars in a matter of seconds.
I recently discovered an interesting blogging idea called Ink Ripples. Created by Katie L. Carroll, Kai Strand, and Mary Waibel, the idea is they give a keyword on the first Monday of the month and you write about it. The hashtag is #InkRipples. There is no wrong way to do #InkRipples (with the exception of following basic human decency!). It’s about having a conversation, sharing ideas, and connecting.
This month's word is "COVERS". For a list of words for the rest of the year, click here.
IWSG is posted the first Wednesday of every month, but I'm posting early this month. Explanation is below with my writing goals. It is the brain child of Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh. Get your fears and insecurities out or give words of encouragement. We're writers, let's support each other!
The awesome co-hosts for this month are Eva @ Lillicasplace, Crystal Collier, Sheena-kay Graham, Chemist Ken, LG Keltner, and Heather Gardner!
No one can argue that 2016 was quite the year. Between celebrity deaths and politics it's a wonder any of us survived. Mine was especially rough. Dad had a heart attack and got an ambulance ride in a snow storm. Then a couple months later, Mom had TWO cancerous tumors discovered. Both were removed successfully. My brother's cancer returned and it took way too long for the medication to do something. And then I had my own medical issues. I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystits and had to throw out 90% of what I normally eat and become a label checker. All this interfered with writing. Needless to say, I'm ready for 2017. Especially if it promises no hospital visits.
