#AtoZChallenge – C is for Conclave

I wasn't going to use this word at first because the date it's first used is the date of Ezio's death according to the Assassin's Creed wiki. Then I was going to do Codex because that's in the game, but the first known use of that is after Ezio's death. Tsk tsk, game writers. You should do your research. ;) Also, I used both words, but only one is the word of the day. And, I <3 Ezio.

Conclave
  1. A private meeting or secret assembly; especially :  a meeting of Roman Catholic cardinals secluded continuously while choosing a pope
  2. A gathering of a group or association
[Middle English, from Middle French or Medieval Latin; Middle French, from Medieval Latin, from Latin, room that can be locked up, from com- + clavis key. First Known Use: 1524]

Ezio slipped behind the tapestry and headed down the steps to the conclave. In three days time, the Templars would be leaving for Venice. Now was the perfect opportunity for the Assassins to reclaim Codex.

Heat burned through Ezio’s veins. He and his men had been ambushed as they returned with it, weary from their journey. Many died and he barely made it out alive. Later, he learned they had been betrayed.

Raphael would pay dearly.

But revenge had to wait. First, he must meet reclaim the Codex and free Florence of Templar rule. Only then could he seek retribution.

Bonus Definition!

Codex
  1. A manuscript book especially of Scripture, classics, or ancient annals
[Latin
First Known Use: circa 1665]

Go Ezio! Great ficlet, very exciting. Makes me want to know how he would take his revenge once he's finished everything else.

I've always wondered what a conclave would be like. Not sure I ever want to find out though! Good luck with your AtoZ's and thanks for popping by.

The word codex... I've seen it somewhere... reminds me of Dan Brown... I think...
And I once wrote a story about an eagle named Ezio.

Cool--Assassin's Creed Fan Fiction! My oldest daughter loves that game. :) Once again, you did a good job with this, Patricia.

BTW, technically, the codex is what students and scholars of ancient manuscripts call the book form, as opposed to the scroll. Codices began to supplant scrolls around the first century AD, largely because they were cheaper to make (you use both sides of the parchment/papyrus in a codex). The codex doesn't *have* to be any particular kind of literature, but the literature mentioned in the definition tend to be the kinds of works that have been preserved in the codex form. :)

I love that you're using the #15tt words again this year. It's like revisiting old friends when I read your stories. :-)

Hope you’re having fun with the A to Z challenge,

Haha! They're just trying to redefine the word by creating a new meaning. Haven't YOU ever done that? *batting eyes* ;)

I've only seen conclave used in a religious context (raised a Catholic, but no longer). Great job incorporating it here!

@Aditi, Thanks.

@Alex, Hooray! Are you going to use them in your writing? ;)

@Tasha, Well, if it's anything like in the games it will be with quiet death.

@Lynne, it is something that would be interesting to be a fly on the wall for.

@Carolyne, thanks!

@SD, thanks for dropping by.

@Larry, It's a fun theme.

@Ninja Captain Alex, And I actually didn't realize it until I went to publish the post.

@Tui, thanks.

@Jamie, no way can you play that game too much. Hubby still needs to get the latest installment.

@Michelle, I think Codex was said somewhere in the Da Vinci Code. I'll have to watch it now and see, but I'm pretty sure.

@John, yeah, I'm kind of an Ezio fan girl. Even though I haven't played the game, but watched hubby play while I wrote or knitted.

@Colin, thanks for the added info! =D

@Jocelyne, I like the challenge it provides.

@Kim,Thanks

@Crystal, only with vampires. ;)

@Linda, same here. Thanks!
