Fatiferous
 1. Fate-bringing; deadly, mortal, destructive
[Latin fatifer; fatum fate + ferre to bear, bring.]

The relic sat in the pedestal, a light shining over it and making the gold engravings glint. People swarmed around it like hungry wolves. They were elated to be part of history as it unfolded.

If only they understood the dangers of the fatiferous object before them.

Ten people died in the jungles searching for it. When it was found, sickness struck and claimed the lives of five of the archeologists. The captain of the plane that carried it across the ocean killed himself shortly after landing.

The ancients who created it, after all, had named it Death.

I had to check this out because I had no idea what fatiferous meant and I was fairly certain it was a describing word for someone pleasantly plump, like meself. ;) lol

Well this is a jolly thing to start the morning with ;P You certainly managed to catch the meaning of the word in your piece - quite the fatiferous (incidentally, you taught me a new word, I never knew you could bring fate before) and also fatalistic snippet!

I don't think I'd want to be in the same room with it...

Ooh! I love this one. I could totally use it in pretty much everything I write. I loved that last line "...had named it Death."

Again a brilliant piece. The word fits in perfectly with this dark fiction!Aditi, dropping from A2Z

Coniferous = cone-bearing. Fatiferous = fate-bearing. Makes perfect sense!

Makes me wonder about those ancients, though. "Hey, things are pretty boring." "Hey, I know! Let's make an artifact that brings death to whoever sees it!"

Don't let the US government know, or the object will wind up in a stenciled wooden box in a wearhouse in a 'alleged' area of New Mexico. :p

Not at all what I thought it was going to be, but a great word!

I guess since the Latin (fatus) has a long a sound (fah-tus), you can pronounce the word "fah-tiferous" which makes it sound less like some kind of adipose attraction. ;)

We both did well for endings today--great last line. :)

These are great! Never heard of this one either. Might be hard to use it in a normal sentence though...I tried to look back and see the reveal post of your theme but didn't see where you actually explained what your emphasis was for the challenge. Gail

@Saralee, there are no words to describe someone as unique as you. ;)

@Sophie, what can I say? I like killing characters... maybe too much.

@Tasha, and now you do!

@Carolyn, do want to play a game? XD (Actually, I've never seen the Saw movies so I'm not sure if that's the exact wording.)

@Ninja Captain Alex, no, you really don't.

@Crystal, that's cool. You should throw it in a story.

@Aditi, thanks!

@PammyPam, that was the goal: to scare a little. =D

@Mood, yes, do!

@Larry, it's because the ancients didn't have Twitter to occupy them. ;)

@LuAnn, the government could try, but there'd be a lot of death in the process!

@Tui, thanks!

@C.Lee, there's always room for more new words. =D

@Djinnia, thanks. ^_^

@Colin, yes, we rock!

@Kim, thanks!

@Gail, thanks. I know my reveal post is somewhere. Maybe this relic got it. =O

@MJ, thanks. =D
