#AtoZChallenge: R is for Rubatosis

This year, my theme for the challenge is Strange Feelings: weird and possibly made up words to describe feelings we all have. I'll let you guess if the word is real or not.

Rubatosis

––the unsettling awareness of ones own heartbeat
Dear Diary,
Do you hear it? The low thump-thump. It's everywhere I go. Always with me. Especially at night. When it's the world stops to slumber, the steady beat is the loudest and most distracting. I can't sleep because I'm too busy listening. Sometimes I lay my hand on my chest and press down, trying to silence it. My only relief is when I'm at school. Everyone is so loud that it drowns the sound out and I can relax.

I'm so tired of it. I want it to stop.

Do you watch Doctor Who? The last companion, Clara, had the opposite issue when she was suspended between heartbeats (her penultimate and her last)...

That's a lovely theme to have chosen for the blog! I can relate to this post cuz I suffer from moderate anxiety. This is what I go through before every presentation at work.

Cheers,
Anjali

I feel this one so hard. I can't sleep on my side because I can't stand the sound of my heartbeat in my ears.

When I take my nap, I often have to wrap my ears in the quilt to muffle the echo of my heartbeat in my ears. It is a weird sensation. I'm guessing rubatosis may be one of the real words.

Another good one.
All the words that are made up can come in handy, as part of your world-building process, when you write your next fantasy/dystopian story...

There's a word for that? lol I hear mine in my ears as I'm falling asleep, and it sounds like footsteps on hay.
