While I was pimping for authors to join this year's Trick-or-Treat Reads, I had someone ask me what sort of results authors could expect. I hadn't written down numbers of previous events, but knew I had hit #1 on a few freebie lists with Snapshots one year.

I think it was three years ago I attempted a newsletter. The site I used was basic and easy, but I can't recall the name. It wasn't MailChimp, I remember that much. I ended up closing the account after a few months because I felt like I had nothing interesting to share. Add to the fact that I don't subscribe to newsletters and find them annoying, it wasn't something I was eager to do despite every writer and their mother declaring every writer should have a newsletter. With that said, guess what?
It's a bit weird to actually be excited for NaNo, but November is here and I'm ready to use the challenge to get some editing done. Since I'm a goal oriented writer, I decided it'd be a good idea to make a plan for the month and set some goals.
I think I'm one of the handful of writers who every November does not go crazy with Nano. The first time I heard about it, I didn't have a story to write and was working on editing Being Human. By the next year, I had figured out a little about how I wrote and setting deadlines like Nano did hindered me more than encouraged. My muse hides from them and I have to trick her by saying goals. I actually dread Nano because everyone talks about it and when you're not part of something super popular it can get disheartening, and to be honest, annoying. But it's hard to escape and once October hits, people start talking and planning.
