Anyways, my mom called me with the news and asked me to call relatives because she was driving to Marquette and there was lake effect snow. I thought I'd give you a peek into the insanity that is my family and their reactions.
Me: Hey Liz, Mom's driving Dad to Marquette because he's having a heart attack.
Me: Dad's having a heart attack and they're on their way to the hospital.
Aunt: Well, why isn't he in an ambulance?
Me: I don't know. Maybe because they're in the middle of nowhere and it was faster than waiting. Mom said they're going to put a thingy in to see what's clogged.
Aunt: How does she know that?
Me: I don't know. I didn't ask because she was driving and upset and I didn't want her to cry and go in the ditch. She'll call when she knows more.
Next little sister. That went okay. She cried and I assured her heart attacks were common. "Not our dad, though!" I called my brother too and he took it like me: calmly but worried.
Then I called my older sister. It went to voice mail because she was probably wrangling my nephews and her husband.
Me: Don't freak out, but *relays message*
Ten minutes later my phone rings and caller ID says it's my big sister.
Other ends: Sobbing.
Me: Dad will be okay. It's just a heart attack. People survive those all the time!
We discuss what's going on.
Then my aunt calls back.
Aunt: I looked up the distance to Marquette and it's an hour and half drive.
I relayed that Dad was in an ambulance. Which made her feel better because then my mom could focus on driving and not my dad.
And the bonus reaction: My boss.
Her: Did you find more about your dad?
Me: Mom just called and they were putting the thingy in to see what's clogged.
My boss: If it's really bad they'll do open heart surgery on the spot.
**Well, hopefully he will be home soon. Dad had to go back because of trouble breathing and see what was up. Turns out when you have a heart attack and the doctors have to poke around in there, it can inflame the area around your heart and you need an anti-inflammatory. My siblings and I just think he missed the hospital, and my mom said he wasn't allowed to take her on any more dates!
