Sesquipedalophobe

––a person with the fear of long words
[Latin - sesqui ‘one and a half’; pedal ‘foot’]
Dear Diary,
Whew. That is close. Too close. A few more letters and the word diary is too long. I must be wary or else. It makes me tired to do this each day. I have to look for other words all the time. And how do I do that? With a damn thesaurus.

I feel sick now. I need to lie down. Recuperate. Ugh. I just threw up on the desk.

Seismic Crimes by Chrys Fey

Picture
An Internal Affairs Investigator was murdered and his brother, Donovan Goldwyn, was framed. Now Donovan is desperate to prove his innocence. And the one person who can do that is the woman who saved him from a deadly hurricane—Beth Kennedy. From the moment their fates intertwined, passion consumed him. He wants her in his arms. More, he wants her by his side in his darkest moments.

Beth Kennedy may not know everything about Donovan, but she can’t deny what she feels for him. It’s her love for him that pushes her to do whatever she has to do to help him get justice, including putting herself in a criminal’s crosshairs.

When a tip reveals the killer's location, they travel to California, but then an earthquake of catastrophic proportions separates them. As aftershocks roll the land, Beth and Donovan have to endure dangerous conditions while trying to find their way back to one another. Will they reunite and find the killer, or will they lose everything?

Isn't it ironic that the word describing a fear of long words is extra long?!

LOL! I better be wary, and not use any long words in my reply! You could not be German and have a fear of long words! :)

LOL. I'd hate to have to find smaller words all the time. That would definitely make writing difficult.
Congrats to Chrys!

Thank you so much for including my promo! And for adding my bio. How sweet! :D

Doesn't it suck that the thing these people are afraid of...long words...is a long word? LOL

That really is an interesting phobia. And I'm laughing at Chrys's comment.

Speaking of Chrys...Congrats on releasing your first novel, Chrys!!

I knew this one existed though I didn't know the word. How would you get through school, like a geography class?

I'm working on cultivating that phobia. Short words are better. Long ones are hard to say and really hard to spell.

Fear of long words? Isn't that a phase that teens go through? Well, at least the ones I seem to run into...

Congrats to Chrys.

Love the word! There seems to be a phobia for everything. Great take on the challenge.

Fear of long words is a long word itself... how interesting :D

I love that it means "one and a half feet". Maybe it's the length words get when they start inducing fear :)

@Stephanie, I know, right?! LOL

@Sophie, OMG you could not be German because they have ridiculously long words.

@Sarah, it was kind of tricky to do when writing this.

@Chrys, it is ironic that the fear of long words is a long word.

@MJ, I laughed at her comment too because I thought the same thing.

@Susan, this was one I had heard before as well, but I couldn't pass it up.

@C. Lee, long words are what I constantly mangle trying to spell.

@Christine, I don't know about scary, but sure are hard to pronounce.

@Liz, LMAO. Maybe. Or the phase they go through is saying Like every other word.

@Jean, I'm pretty sure there is a phobia for everything.

@Shilpa, kind of funny isn' it?

@JE, I kind wonder about the fact it means one and half feet. Like, how does that relate to words?

@Joy, they'd be terrified to talk about their own phobia!

@Gayl, it's one of the few I had heard before and I thought it was so funny that I had to use it.

@Michelle, isn't it?

@RM, I know. That's why I had to highlight it.

@Yvonne, yeah. Every time a long word appeared on the page you'd freak out.

@Tasha, I hope you never develop it then. ;)
