Diary of Phobias––Zemmiphobe #AtoZChallenge

Zemmiphobe

––a person with the fear of the great mole rat
[Russian dialect- shchenyuk ‘puppy' +zemny 'of earth’]
Z was another letter without a lot of phobias. Etymology was tricky again. There isn't a species of mole called the great mole rat either.

Dear Diary,
They say dinosaurs once ruled the earth. When they died, mammals took their place, but these weren't normal mammals. They were massive giants. And yes, I know those two words are basically the same, but that's just how big those so-called ancient animals were.

I say so-called because I know they all didn't die out. There are giant, ugly moles burrowing under us, making tunnels and weakening the ground we walk on. Look at the increase in earthquakes. It's happening now!

We are all going to die.

All right, I have to admit, this one made me laugh. It also made me think of the naked mole rat, which is a real species. I learned about them on the Disney cartoon, Kim Possible. And then I thought about how a person with this fear might not be able to watch that kick-ass cartoon.

Loved your theme this month! It's been great!

Congrats for making it all the way through the A to Z! :)

That is a very weird phobia! Well done for finding one.

This was one funny phobia! Thank heaven I'm not Russian and thank heaven I don't even know what a great mole rat is. Thanks for the AtoZ of phobic words, Patricia. It's been fun to visit and find out if I'm afflicted by any of these.

I'd be afraid of giant mole rats if they existed. I really, really hope they don't.

This person should watch the movie City of Ember. Or maybe not.

Yeah those ugly moles are up to no good. Might make for a really good short story.

Ha ha! This one was funny...made me think of the R.O.U.S. rodents in The Princess Bride, which is one of my favorite movies. Congrats on completing A to Z!

@MJ, this one made me giggle while writing it too.

@Sophie thanks. =)

@Christine, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!! ;)

@C. Lee, there's no such thing as a great mole rat so we're all safe. Unless you fear the naked mole rat. Those are real. ;)

@JE, maybe we'll discover them with Big Foot in the forest. XD

@Stephanie, aww, come on. I'm sure they'd be cute like a giant guinea pig.

@Sarah, I decided to go real silly with this one.

@Joy, thanks! I followed you on Twitter so will do. =)

@Tamara, they probably shouldn't.

@Stephen, I have enough story ideas. Don't encourage the muse.

@Scarlett, thanks!

@Deb, OMG you are so right! LOL

I wondered what that scratching noise was under my floor boards just now. I hope I don't die before I've finished this rather agreeable bottle of red!

I guess I match that definition. It depends on my proximity to the great mole rat. Ten miles away? I wouldn't even think about it. Secretly deployed into my blanket? I'd probably freak out.

I think a fear of rats should be called common sense, not zemmiphobia! Yuck.
Congrats on completing the AtoZChallenge. See you around the alphabet.

I'm still chuckling over this. In fact, I had to look up "zemmiphobia" because I thought surely you had made this up. The diary entry is great.

Glad you made it to the end of the A to Z Challenge for 2016. Nicely done. Hope you didn't develop alphabetaphobia during the month.

@Keith, yes, the great mole rat should at least be considerate enough to wait until the booze is gone before murdering you. ;)

@John, I think you have a good point.

@Liz, that's a good idea. I wonder if I can do it.

@Yvonne, thanks. I had a blast writing them.

@Gail, come on. Rats are great pets. I had one once and she was so sweet. A bit like a cat and dog mixed.

@Mary, yeah, it was a lot of fun looking into and making up diary entries.

@Arlee, nope, only Y is the one I'm uncertain as to if it is real or not.

What a very specific phobia! It's weird because to have this phobia, you must have had to research the time period and the life forms that existed and then put two and two together and get about 75!

Yes my first thought was also Princess Bride. I wonder how large the actual live creature is? Maybe I don't want to know . . .

@Katie, I am ready for a blogging nap!

@RM, yeah, it took all the right circumstances for this person to get this phobia.

@Lissa, I don't think it's a real creature.
