![]() A little update about recent developments relating to Monday's post (and because the post I thought was supposed to go up today, is actually for Monday so I needed something for today.) Unsurprisingly, on my day off, Wednesday, the third cook didn't show up for his shift and I had to go in. This time, he didn't bother to call with an excuse. Not that he really bothered to call other times or he'd dump on us that he had a court date in a half hour in the middle of his shift. Also not surprising, The Boss was done. She didn't care if we didn't have anyone to replace him, which was the only reason we still had him, he was fired. Later, the head cook called me and informed me that the guy had finally sent her a text saying the cops were going to ship him off to prison so he just decided not to come in. Because that is the responsible thing to do, yes? Anyways, even though I had no idea how much I would be working due to this development, it was a huge relief to know that I didn't have to worry anymore. It's hard to get stuff done when you're waiting for The Boss to call and say you have to come in because your coworker can't finish or make it to his shift. It's stressful too. The only days I could relax were days I had a full shift to work. I couldn't be called in because I was already there.
And to boot, one of the waitresses expressed a desire to learn how to cook. She wanted more hours and on the waitressing side, showed she was a quick learner. Already, she knows parts of the job and we know she's capable of handing a fast pace. Thursday she felt comfortable enough for me to go home early. We're still looking for another cook. Wednesday The Boss went to a job fair so today we will be interviewing potential applicants. It's nice to finally feel like I can breathe. And think. Recently, my characters started talking to me again. They've been as bogged down by all this as I have.

Well, I never had any formal training, so I usually stick with the term cook.

Wow! Prison? LOL. That's extreme. Glad to hear that the boss got rid of the bad apple. That's good to hear about the server who wants to learn to cook. She will probably pick it up quicker than someone who is new off the street. She already knows the menu! That's half the battle when training someone new, isn't it? Then it's all about getting the feel for how to get the timing down so the food is in the window at the same time. Yay! So glad things are looking up for you. :)

Training the waitress was definitely a breeze. One day with her and then she said she was fine closing the kitchen on her own.

That sounds like hard drama for any work place. I'm glad you can breathe again, and now chat with your characters.

I'm ready for the drama to stop... at least for a little while. I think everyone has earned the relief.

Yay for unreliable people going away, and other people stepping up to take their place!
