Anyways, Ashley and I were talking about the short because she had some questions. By the end of the conversation, she said she felt the story could be fleshed out and made stronger and offered to give it a more thorough edit. I declined.
Now, don't get me wrong. I try to make all my stories be as strong as possible, but Balance of Love is meant to be a short, fast read. The basics are there, I have a little conflict and then everything is solved. I will admit, I don't delve into the characters much. Time could be spent fleshing them out and making them more faceted. The war between the angels and devils has a bunch of potential too. I could have so much fun with the Light and annoy the crap out of the Influencers with cryptic messages.
Do the shorts have the potential to be full novels? Oh yeah. Is it possible that me planning on releasing Balance of Love sooner than later factored into my decision to pass up Ashley's offer? Can't lie there, it was.
But it's not a lie when I say I'm happy with the stories the way they are. I know there is possibility for more exploration. Maybe one day I will get an idea that will get me to turn them into novels. Then I will definitely call on Ashley for her opinion. Until then, I hope readers will see the shorts as I see them. Fun, quick reads that end with a happily ever after.
