Sir Isaac rode to the castle. Two guards manning the gate opened it for him. He rode through and to the stables. As he dismounted, he plucked the seat of his galligaskins from where they had wedged in his behind.
The banquet hall was loud from the celebration. Everyone stopped when Isaac was noticed. Lady Beaumont went pale. Her eyes pleaded with Isaac. Voices whispered.
A long, tense moment passed. Everyone knew why Isaac was there and the truth about the child in Lady Beaumont’s arms.
Finally, Isaac held out his hand. “Congratulations, Brother, on the birth of your son.”
