I quit! #IWSG June

IWSG is posted the first Wednesday of every month, but I'm posting early this month. Explanation is below with my writing goals. It is the brain child of Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh. Get your fears and insecurities out or give words of encouragement. We're writers, let's support each other!

The awesome co-hosts for the June 7 posting of the IWSG will be JH Moncrieff, Madeline Mora-Summonte, Jen Chandler, Megan Morgan, and Heather Gardner! Go visit them and say Hi!

This month's questions is: DID YOU EVER SAY “I QUIT”? IF SO, WHAT HAPPENED TO MAKE YOU COME BACK TO WRITING?

I have yet to say "I quit" in regards to writing. I have thought about it, but it never got past my lips. There are times when writing is tough. It feels like a slog, but when I look at everyone else, they are breezing along like it's the easiest thing in the world. I feel like a failure. I'll never find more readers or I'll lose readers. Why am I bothering? I should quit.

But then I get stubborn. Hell no I don't want to quit! I like writing. If it was easy, it wouldn't be worth it. I'm going to make it work and laugh at life for trying to stop me. Gonna take selfies of me with my books and post them on Instagram. That'll show life. ;)

Oh Patricia,
the others aren't breezing along. It just seems like that. Don't ever give up. It is when you do give up that you realise the prize was just around the bend. So keep going, Lady.
Shalom aleichem,
Patricia

I know that feeling of frustration and wanting to turn my back on it all, but I can't stop writing. One day, I hope to see those selfies of you!

I love your stubborness and your idea of taking selfies with books on instagram. I have to try that. :)

Don't give up! Believe me, no matter how other writers look from the outside, we're definitely not breezing along!

I wouldn't have made it this far if I didn't write. Just sayin'

LOL. I'm just like you: tell me I can't do something (even if I'm the one telling myself that), and some inner donkey comes out and proves how VERY stubborn I actually am. :-)

You know why it seems everyone else has easier? It's been drummed into most of us that no one likes to see writers whining about how hard their lives are online. So I'd say the great majority focus on the positive, but that doesn't mean there aren't any struggles. *hugs*

How do you get traction on Wattpad? I finally tried it this year, but quickly got discouraged.

What's that saying? We see everyone else's final drafts, but we suffer through our own rough drafts. We only see the successes of others, not the struggle. So, good on you to keep on. It's hard for us all, I daresay.

I suppose if it were easy a lot of us would have moved on to another challenge! Glad you think like that, too!

You're lucky it never got past your lips. I'm stubborn, too, which is why I was never able to really give up.

I don't think anyone but a few are breezing along. This is a tough business. I concentrate on whether I'm enjoying it and try to have fun on the journey. Otherwise, it's a painful hobby. lol

I feel like I've quit with productivity levels being so low, but I still want to write, even if I never find commercial success. It makes me happy.

Writing's the best, isn't it? Although it would be nice to not have to choose between it and eating.

LOL! You show life. Who is it to stop you anyway? It's so easy to get discouraged, eh? But we're seeing everyone else's successes and comparing them to our failures. Since when is that fair?

LOL stubbornness can be a good thing. I just think if I actually tried to quit writing, my characters would bug me until I tried again. So maybe they're the stubborn ones...

I know what you mean about some authors breezing along. I think it seems like it, but in reality those authors struggle just like us. It's a tough path we've chosen for sure, but we can do this. Just practice, practice, practice!

I think writers invented the word, slog, because we all know what it means yet here we still are.

I always write myself a letter about why I'm quitting. That's what always brings me back to not quitting!

Hi Patricia. I don't think any writer thinks its a breeze. We all have good days when the words do flow, but those dark days when it's difficult to string a sentence together also come to us all. Good for you for sticking with it. As you say, if it was easy everybody would be doing it. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing your thoughts - we can all relate :) Have a lovely week.

I don't think it really is easier or breezier for others, it just looks that way sometimes. But I think we all have those moments when everything is clicking and our writing and our lives are good. Let's aim for more of those! :)

Everybody else is breezing along? Wish I was a part of that group. What am I missing?

Never mind...I'll just plod along as I've been doing.

But I'll definitely join you in "showing life" with our stubborn never-give-in attitudes! Take that life! Stubbornness rules!

Love your determination! Know what you mean about everyone else seeming to breeze along. It's a sucky feeling, for sure...
