NaNoEditMo Goals

It's a bit weird to actually be excited for NaNo, but November is here and I'm ready to use the challenge to get some editing done. Since I'm a goal oriented writer, I decided it'd be a good idea to make a plan for the month and set some goals.

Normally, when I blog goals for Write Motivation, I do a mid-month check-in. It keeps me accountable throughout the month. This time, I'm going to post updates at the end of my Monday posts with how many words I've edited and a weekly word count goal to work towards. My hope is this will keep me working consistently even if I don't hit the goal. (Hopefully, my muse doesn't figure out that it's more like a deadline. Maybe I can train her to love deadlines.... Hmmm. Probably not. ^_~)

The Game Plan

  • Edit my story under Patricia Josephine, Abducted Life (number one goal)
  • Edit Luc's story (aka Mistakes of the Past. Still not sure on the title)
  • Rewrite Dark Water
  • Work on Mmm, Brains (This needs a real title too. May be be a two parter)
I think that should get me through the month. Abducted Life I'll probably focus solely on, and the others I can bounce around depending on who is talking loudest. Good luck to everyone doing NaNoWriMo and anyone, like me, who is using the challenge in their own way to get some work done.

Yes, that seems like enough to get through the month. :)

Wow, November just creeped right up on us. I forgot this was a thing. We're not really big on NaNo, but cheers to you for taking it and making it your own!

Mmm, Brains isn't a real title? I'd read the crap out of that.

Good luck to everyone! It looks like you have your plans firmly set. I'm just trying to get this mystery synopsis rewritten for the third...fourth...fifth time? I've lost track. It's been a while since I've written a mystery, although I LOVE to read them, so this one is giving me a challenge!

Setting goals and publicly reviewing them seems to help a lot of people.

Keeping yourself accountable is a great way to go. I need to do more of that myself. Sounds like you're going to be plenty busy.

Hi Patricia,

I used NaNo a few years ago as a reason to edit a novel. It worked well. Even though I didn't have a word count per se, I was still able to hold myself accountable to getting some editing done every day. I have a lovely second draft waiting for more edits. Hurrah! Best of luck with your editing goals and your NaNo!

Cheers,
Jen

Those sound like great goals. *Mmm, Brains* sounds like a great title, if it's relevant to the book at all :)
Good luck with your NaNo.
