Let me tell you now, I have had book bloggers fall through. I have had my experiences with book bloggers who for reasons I don't know did not review my book after agreeing to. Was I upset? Miffed? Yup, but I saw no reason to cry foul. There must be reasons I figured. I may never learn the explanation for why, but I'm okay with that.
- I pledge to all book bloggers to be grateful for the hard work they do. Not all book bloggers are paid and many take time out of their daily lives to read and review books. Their only compensation is the book. And sometimes, life gets in the way and the review doesn't happen. Either way, thank you for reading my book.
- I pledge to approach all reviews, good and bad, as a professional writer. It does not matter if I am indie or traditional author. Both need to act professional.
- I pledge that if a bad review makes me emotional to step away from the Internet. There is nothing wrong with being upset over a bad review, but that's not an excuse to act like a jerk. Remember, the Internet is forever. Someone will always take a screen shot.
- I pledge to understand that everyone has different opinions. Even the greatest of writers had critics that hated their work. The most I will ask for is a book blogger to be kind with their words when writing a bad review of any of my books, but there's nothing that says you have to give me that courtesy. It's just something I hope will happen when it comes to bad reviews.
There you have it, my pledge. With this I am not attempting to speak for all authors. Only for myself. But I'm kinda hoping this catches on and other authors will post their own so book bloggers know that their hard work is appreciated Even if the end result is a bad review or the review never happens. Authors and book bloggers need each other. We shouldn't destroy our relationships.
PS: Check out this post on the matter as well.
