Were you born a bookworm?

If you want to join in on the conversation, check out Billy Burgess' Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer for the official blog hop. There will be new questions every Friday.

So, was I born a bookwork? Being a writer, I'd like to say yes, but I'm not sure. I'm certain my mom read to me before I knew how. She read to my little sister when she was a baby; she also reads to my nephews. It only makes sense that she read to me and my older siblings when we were too young to read. My parents' house also had a playroom that was stocked full of books.
When I learned to read, there were always programs in elementary school to encourage reading. Read ten books and pick a prize out of the prize box. There was also the Pizza Hut reading program. Read and get a personal pan pizza. That was great motivation. I lapsed during my late teenage years, but my early teens I devoured books like Fear Street. My love for vampire tales started then.

It's obvious that I was encouraged to read throughout my childhood. Even if I wasn't born a bookworm, I developed into one.

Since it's Monday, time for a quick #Write Motivation update.
  • Continue Friday Quick Fic - Still ahead.
  • Go through beta notes from Erin for Path of Angels 1 - Still done and automated body parts have been axed as well.
  • Read two books from TBR pile - I started a cheesy paranormal romance, but haven't been feeling it so I might switch to another book.
  • Print Out of Secrets and ink it up - Finally bought paper to print it out.
  • Write Saturday Story Dam post - I wrote up Saturday's post yesterday. =)

OMG the Pizza Hut reading program! I remember that... I usually had the necessary amount of books completed in about a week. Our local library had a summer reading program, too, (still does, I think) but it wasn't a prize anywhere near as awesome as free pizza. According to my mom, I was a late-bloomer when it came to reading (I was homeschooled), but as soon as I had it down, I was off and running, lol.

Keep it up on the #writemotivation goals! You're doing fantastic!

Free pizza was and will always be the best prize for anything! lol

I've been a reader for as long as I can remember. My parents always set great examples.

I'm quite a bit older than you lot...

But, I remember sitting at the kitchen table reading out loud. I would sit in my room with the read along records. And I was NEVER EVER without a book in my hands when out of the house, or I would be unbearable for my mother. :)

So, yeah, I was always a bookworm, seeing as there was NOTHING to do like TV, video games, or Internet when I was growing up.

Hey now, I remember a time when there was no Internet. The only video games were Atari or the NES (still have mine too!) I played outside a lot when I was little.

I've always been a huge bookworm. My library had a summer reading program and it still does.

I recall something going on every summer at a local library when I was little too. Made it easy to attend since I lived a few blocks and could walk. =)

Much like your experience, my parents read to us from a very early age--and they were both avid readers themselves. My mother taught my sisters and me to read when we were very young. I think books were and still are pretty much the most meaningful gifts to give and receive in my family.

My mom was an avid reader and still is. My dad wasn't so much, but he read things like magazine and radio manuals. lol

I was always a book worm. I remember the reading programs at my library were always tons of fun with themes and prizes and seeing your name displayed on the board.

The reading programs my library did were the same. I recall some fun projects.

I always had books with me when I was young, and that was a LONG ASS time ago.

Ahhh those were the days. Now I barely have time to open my e-reader app... I'm not sure I'd have time to join a bloghop :( I'll live vicariously.

I seem to be doing a lot of that lately

I know how you feel. There's always something keeping me from opening a book lately. =(

Man, I wish I got a pizza every time I read a book. I'd be 400 pounds, but much happier!

I definitely wasn't born a bookworm. I had ADD (tell me it's not real, then come up with a description for the terrible problem I had) and couldn't focus on words. It took years of patience from my parents, picture books, comic books, audiobooks, and movies with the right plots to hook me into trying real prose. I'm very glad I went through that.

That's why the program was for kids. When we were young, we were active enough to easily burn all the calories from the pizza.

I loved the Pizza Hut program! Was it called Book It? That doesn't really sound right, but it's what's stuck in my brain. And, yes, I was always a book worm from the very start. Although once I started working full time, I cut back on reading since I had no self control (too many nights of NO sleep).

Sounds like you're making good progress with your goals! Keep it up!

I think I grew into my skin of bookworm. It wasn't actively encouraged as such, but there were bookshelves which I pillaged before finding the joys of the local library. I now read a lot in front of my kids and this seems to encourage my youngest, so fingers crossed he's a natural bookworm.

I think I've always been a bookworm. My dad was an editor and there were lots of books in our house. I still remember the first book I ever checked out from the library. It was a Babar the Elephant book and not only did the colors grab me, but it smelled really good, too! I don't get to do as much pleasure reading now as I used to and I really miss it.
