#WriteMotivation May

I am glad April is over. It was an exhausting month (not because of the challenge though.)
Picture
  1. Visit 3 new blogs a day for Challenge –– First week I managed this. Second week, I missed a few days. Third week I failed completely. I was too tired from my day job and I didn't have the energy to read and think up comments.
  2. Finish reading whatever book I'm currently on and start a new one –– I didn't read at all in April.
  3. Promo plan for the month –– I got the tweets scheduled, but I didn't do a post because of the challenge and I didn't do any other promo.
  4. Find another beta reader for Mistakes of the Past (any takers?) –– MJ Fifield volunteered and already got me notes back. Like the blog commenting, I don't have the energy to go through her notes let, but managed to thank her.
  5. Write 1 drabble per day –– Fail!
  6. Exercise 5x a week for 15 minutes –– I managed at least 3 times most weeks, but didn't hit 5 any.
As you can see, I failed at most of my goals last month. My main excuse was exhaustion. I was burnt out from employee crap at the day job and it resulted in everything else suffering because I couldn't take time off from the day job. I had to be there. We were short workers and I had to train new ones. By the time I got home, I was done for the day.

I spent a lot of time playing Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild because it kept me awake, but didn't require a lot of brain power. I could run around and that didn't require thinking. That's the main reason I failed commenting on the challenge. I didn't have the energy to read the blogs then think up something to say. Just thinking about doing that was exhausting.

The plus side to the exhaustion was I was too tired to feel guilty, so I didn't dwell. Now, things at work are finally calming down, and hopefully, I'm done training for a while. My coworker commented the other day I didn't seem as cranky, and I realized I wasn't feel as tired that day. I've also found the motivation to work on some crafts. Hopefully, I can put some of that energy toward writing again. I just have to survive this week first. There's a big 2000$ catering that the baker is doing on Thursday, and I'm helping her out. If I remember, I'll take a picture of it all so you can see just how much yummy food that is.

I think for May I'm going to take it off on blogging and goals. I'm going to do the tweets for promo and blog a post as well as do IWSG and the A to Z Reflections, but otherwise, I need a blogging break and work on catching up on some of the good blogs I found at the beginning of the challenge.

PS:

I posted a new chapter to Journey Into Darkness. Read it here.

PPS:

I changed the sign up from my newsletter from an evil, annoying pop-up to a bar at the top. What do you think? Does it grab enough attention to get you to look and maybe sign up?

I definitely feel you about the exhaustion! The A-Z challenge was tiring enough but with you doing the other motivation challenges as well as day job crap... wow you must need sleep! Or cake. Or both! :D

The pop-up going away is a good thing, imo. I hate pop-ups and to be honest, any sites who use them make me want to just leave the site more often than not lol. The newsletter link in the sidebar looks good, but isn't very noticeable (unless there should be a different bar I'm seeing but just don't see?).

I'll just say it. You crazy! That was a lot, but you actually did get a lot done.

I hear you. Sometimes you can't muster the energy to even think let alone form words.

It's probably for the best that you changed the newsletter sign up. It looks great and popups can be quite frustrating.

When the day job takes it out of you, sometimes all you can do is hold on. I didn't do any blog hopping at all. I meant to, but my days just got away from me. I'm contemplating doing that this month. We'll see.

Take care of you. This too shall pass.

After the A to Z, I'd like to quit blogging for a year and just write. But I've committed myself to IWSG as a host this month and a guest blog for the new Hero Anthology and I'm part of the weekly Celebrate the Small Things. Grrr. So much for a blogging break.

I had similar problems. I'm easing up on myself, too - except for doing more reading, but only when I feel like it.

Enjoy some time off!

That was why I had to do some serious thinking last year after the challenge. The whole point of my blog is to interact with people and build a community for book promo purposes (and fun!). But people weren't visiting other blogs, especially halfway through to the end, and I was having to put other things aside to read blogs and deal with replying to comments. It just was going against all my goals.
